We open our doors to the public!
« backOn Thursday 8 November, the Neuro Connection Foundation held it’s Open Day for members of the public to showcase and share their services to people and relevant businesses in the community.
The Neuro Connection Foundation (NCF), established in 1992, is a long-term, community-based rehabilitation provider, for people with neurological conditions including Stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis as well as brain and spinal cord injuries. The foundation operates out of its centre based at Tui Glen Reserve, 2 Claude Brookes Drive, Henderson.
The philosophy of rehabilitation at Neuro Connection, is based on Conductive Education (CE) – a pedagogy of rehabilitation usually provided to children with neurological conditions. At NCF however, they are the only adult provider of CE in the wider Auckland area. On Thursday, the Foundation hosted guests from the Stroke Foundation, Parkinson’s NZ, Grey Power Waitakere, local Physiotherapists and staff at Sport Waitakere, along with existing clients and staff.
The day included a welcome from the Chair of the Board, Christine Clark and NCF staff, along with two representing clients, Davorin Ozich (stroke survivor) and Eddy Lamusitele (spinal cord injury client) – who courageously shared their stories to the group. Following the welcome, two classes, Stroke and Parkinson’s, were demonstrated with two full-time senior rehabilitation specialists. After these classes, guests were invited to tour around the centre, while sharing a light lunch with clients and staff.
Neuro Connection Foundation is a not-for-profit and registered charitable trust with incorporated society status. The foundation continues to operate due to vital local community and national grants received from the; Ministry of Health, Foundation North, The Trusts Community Foundation, New Zealand Lotteries Grants Board, Community Organisation Grants Scheme, Lion Foundation, Auckland Council, Southern Trust, JM Thompson Trust Fund, Bill Armitage, Blue Waters and The Rehab Welfare Trust. Without the support of these funders and donors, the foundation simply cannot provide their services to this amazing, yet vulnerable group of people in the community.
For more information on the work this foundation continues to do - to empower people with neurological conditions to lead a more independent life - you can view their website at www.neuroconnection.org.nz or email admin@neuroconnection.org.nz to enquire about a free consultation with one of our friendly team.
